Los Angeles, CA – January 27, 2026 - The 2026 Summer Internship Program at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) is designed as an immersive, hands-on training experience that equips students with the technical, analytical, and creative skills needed for modern bioengineering and translational research.
Based at the Institute’s Woodland Hills office, this eight-week in-person paid program, beginning June 22, 2026, features three specialized internship tracks, allowing students to tailor their experience based on their interests:
Research interns gain hands-on experience in a biomedical engineering lab, learning core techniques such as pipetting, cell culture, microscopy, and quantitative characterization while contributing to ongoing research projects.
Innovation interns explore the entrepreneurial side of bioengineering by evaluating emerging technologies, analyzing market opportunities, and learning how ideas progress from early-stage research toward real-world applications.
Marketing interns support the Institute’s mission by creating engaging promotional content and assisting with digital campaigns that translate complex scientific ideas into accessible stories for broader audiences.
Led by Natashya Falcone, PhD, Director of the Internship Program, the eight-week curriculum blends hands-on laboratory training with exposure to emerging technologies shaping the future of biomedical innovation.
“This program has been absolutely perfect for me,” said Hannah S., a former intern of the 2025 cohort. “The exposure I’ve gained to lab techniques such as cell culture, histology, and imaging has been incredibly helpful.”
Reflecting on the program’s impact, President Stewart Han emphasized the importance of mentorship and student growth.
“Each year, our interns bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to the Institute. We are proud to offer an experience that supports their development while advancing our broader mission to drive meaningful innovation in biomedical science.”
The central goal of the program is to empower students to think independently and creatively. This culminates in a pitch-based innovation challenge and a final research presentation, where interns synthesize their learning, propose original ideas, and communicate their work to a scientific audience.
Through close mentorship, collaborative learning, and exposure to cutting-edge tools, the 2026 Summer Internship Program aims to prepare students not just for their next academic step, but for impactful careers at the intersection of science, engineering, and innovation.
